Anne Main: Council data loss must be prevented in future

Commenting on the theft of a St Albans District Council laptop containing personal data, Anne Main, MP for St Albans, said:
“St Albans District Council needs to conduct an internal investigation, as this is not the first such incident to have occurred. People are concerned about these potential intrusions into their privacy.
I shall be writing to the Chief Executive to ask what IT Security and data security policies the Council already has in place, and what measures they will be putting in place.
I am particularly disappointed that the data was not encrypted as this falls below what we should be able to expect. This sort of thing needs to be prevented in future.”
