Hertfordshire County Council’s Highways Contractor Ringway are using newly-developed technology that enables live traffic updates to be sent to Sat Nav providers like TomTom and Google Maps.
The new system will be jointly launched between Hertfordshire and Essex, the first local authorities in the country to deploy the new technology.
Live information from road closures planned by Ringway roadworks teams on behalf of the county council can now be delivered straight to your satellite navigation system to help you avoid closed roads on your route.
The new technology was developed by Elgin in collaboration with Google, TomTom, and other major Sat Nav providers. It enables our Highways officers and contractors to close or reopen a road instantly on mainstream Sat Nav devices in real-time.
That means that when you are on a journey in the county, your Sat Nav will automatically direct you away from both planned and emergency road closures that could cause disruption on your route.
