Born in St Albans, Ambrose attended local schools and has lived here for over 40 years. He dedicated over 30 years to the Hertfordshire Constabulary.

Ambrose spent a year working at the British Embassy in Moscow before serving as a civil servant and later rejoining the police. He worked with the British Transport Police, Civil Nuclear Police, and the Metropolitan Police, earning commendations for leadership, courage, and professionalism during the 2011 Tottenham riots.
