Action needed on verge damage

Verges

Verge damage caused by building works is a frequent issue raised by residents across the District.

Cllrs Salih Gaygusuz and Richard Curthoys raised a motion at Full Council to address this issue summarised as follows:

"At present we are unable to add enforceable conditions to planning applications that require repairs and reinstatement from the owners of vehicles damaging the pavements and verges; that is simply unacceptable. In order to bring this to an end we need a change in legislation.

This Council must act now to write to the Secretary of State at the Department for Housing, Communities and Local Government to ask for an amendment/addition to Planning legislation to enable local planning authorities to impose a standard condition on the grant of planning applications to protect pavements and verges from damage caused by vehicles parked thereon."
