New weed treatment programme to start this month

A new programme for clearing weeds from roads and pavements in the St Albans District will start this month – and residents can keep an eye on the results.

People can check on a new webpage what streets are due to be treated and when the work is due to go ahead.

Grant secured for Wavell House

 

Wavell House on Cell Barnes Lane is being demolished and the site developed by the Council into 24 new homes for social rent for the over 55s. It includes 25 parking spaces.

The Council obtained a grant of £720K from Homes England to help with the project.

New traffic lights for Hatfield Road

Innovative new traffic lights have been installed on Hatfield Road that have a cycle specific light that turns green before the main light. This gives cyclists a few seconds head start and should help improve safety and traffic flow.

Visitors to St Albans can now refill their water bottles with tap water for free at a growing network of friendly cafes, shops, hotels and businesses.

St Albans City and District Council has written to local businesses inviting them to join Refill St Albans.

£120K makeover for Verulamium Park playground

The City Neighbourhoods Committee (CNC) has finalised an award of £120,400 forVerulamium at Play’s project to redesign and replace the playground in St Albans’ flagshippark.

Running track to be upgraded

Work to upgrade an ageing  running track at Westminster Lodge in St Albans is scheduled to being later this year.

New MyStAlbans online account launches

Residents can now sign up to the new MyStAlbans District Account and get access to lots of services delivered by St Albans City and District Council.

They can book and pay for services securely and report issues, via the online account that is personalised to them.

Revitalising the River Ver

An ambitious project to return the River Ver to its more natural state as it runs through the centre of St Albans has been launched. The plan will include significant enhancements to Verulamium Park and the water quality of its artificial lakes.
